Website of the Year Award for 2011
The Amador Bonsai Society was founded in 1998 by a group of Amador County residents who shared a love of the ancient Japanese art of bonsai. Bonsai is the art form of growing and shaping miniature trees in containers. The Kanji characters above represent Bon, a tray and Sai, a planting.
The purposes of bonsai are primarily contemplation for the viewer and the pleasant exercise of effort and ingenuity for the grower. By contrast with other plant cultivation practices, bonsai is not intended for production of food, for medicine, or for creating yard-size gardens or landscapes. Instead, bonsai practice focuses on the long-term cultivation and shaping of one or more small trees growing in a container.
Today, the society holds monthly meetings, participates in many communtiy events, sponsors an outreach program in area schools and holds an annual bonsai show.
We invite you to explore this website to find out more about our society and to experience a small taste of this beautiful and rewarding art form.
